We just received some news from Finkies owners from Ontario.

On February 18th a Finnish Spitz meeting have been organized at SunnyBritook Park in North York Ontario. The meeting was a clear success: a great way to have fun and make new friends.

Our Ontario community is planning to organize this kind of event every 3 or 4 months. If you’re interested, feel free to have a look at the CFSC’s facebook page for more information regarding the next meeting.

Our reunion all started when I posted on the Finnish Spitz International Facebook page asking if there were any Finnish Spitz dogs near by.
I had been trying to reconnect with our dogs litter mates for a while to see if we could get together.

In the end there was actually a big response and ended up with 7 dogs coming out to meet up! We all were coming from different places and Cynthia Chiang suggested we meet at SunnyBrook Park in North York, as she had been there and it was a good middle ground meeting spot for the vast majority of people.

The dogs didn’t react as I expected, they didn’t seem to realize that they were meeting other Finnish Spitz, not to mention their own family members! For the most part they went off on their own to explore. We took pictures and all compared our dogs behaviour. We all found that our dogs all had a lot in common, including their quirks, tempers, sounds, likes and dislikes etc. Our meeting was about 2-3 hours long and by the end of it the dogs were all pooped!

We are hoping to do a quarterly meet-up from now on!

Ember-Skies-2016Dear Finnish Spitz lover:

We are planning a little Finnish Spitz get-together at the Scandinavian Midsummer Festival in Burnaby on June 19 and 20th. More info about the Festival here:

The Canadian Finnish Spitz Club is hosting a booth on both June 18th and June 19th. All Finnish Spitz are welcome to be ambassadors for the breed. We will be providing shade and drinking water for all the dogs who attend although it is a good idea to bring a lawn chair if you would like to stay and hang out with us.

There is a fun show to be held at 11:30 am on June 19th — adult dogs, puppies, neutered and spayed dogs are all welcome to participate. We would love it if you could come. Any dog participating in the show just needs to walk nicely on leash and look natural, like they are bark-pointing. There will be a special prize for every puppy or adult who barks for a treat.

If you are going to participate in the show, please RSVP me at and plan to arrive at approximately 10:30 am to give us time to get the ringtime organized. This should be a great promotion for the Finnish Spitz and so much fun to show off our dogs and puppies with the Finnish community in the Greater Vancouver area.

Please pass message on to anyone you know who might like to visit our booth, bring dogs as ambassadors or participate in our fun show. Looking forward to seeing lots of little red dogs in Burnaby in June!

Fyi.. There is also a Specialty for Cardigan corgi’s going on Friday as well.
Also the Columbia Basin Dog Training Club in Richland will be having
obedience/rally trials all 3 days.

Our Richland dog club has all the judges set to come. I’m also working to get a grooming space set up with power near the rings, but have to wait until we know how many people are planning to come and need grooming, since some may bring their RV’s.  I am also working to insure food is available on Friday (lunch) for purchase at the show site.  Sat & Sunday our club has food vendors set up around other vendors.  The show is all outside with the Columbia River adjacent to the show grounds.  We do have the Red Lion motel in Richland set up as the host motel, as well as where the banquet will be held.
I sure hope you all can make it to our show this fall.  I will keep you posted as things develop so that you can put into the news letter.

Take Care,

Kay Hulstrom
